In our minds, there are 3 different types of scouting when it comes to Arizona Elk.
- Historical Scouting– where you know of different bulls and you know the unit from past experiences. Each year you check different areas that have held a certain bull or bulls during a certain time period.
- Early Season-this type of scouting is to just get a grasp on what caliber of bulls are growing and where the cows are pocketed up for the rut seasons.
- 1 week-the week prior to any Arizona Elk hunt is critical. Especially, prior to the early Arizona Elk Rut Hunts. Big bulls will rub of their velvet in mid-August. These bulls will then travel 5-30+miles while searching for cows.
Below is a big bull we filmed in 2010, this footage was taken during the Early Season scouting phase. We never found this bull again!
